01 · The problem ACSS exists to address

Chemical chain reactions in propulsion systems cascade in tens of milliseconds. The actuators on a modern engine can intervene in single- digit milliseconds. The bottleneck has never been the valves — it has been the decision: is this an excursion to ride out, or a cascade to break? Current engine health monitoring scores sensors independently against point-thresholds and answers that question too late, too often, or both.

ACSS sits between your sensors and your actuators as the decision layer. It sees the cascade signature that no single sensor announces. It commands the intervention before the cascade commits.

A cascade signature lives across multiple channels at once — chamber pressure phase, propellant flow modulation, exhaust spectrum, vibration band. ACSS recognizes the coordinated pattern in microseconds. No single channel alarming is required for the cascade to be identified.

03 · What ACSS does not do

ACSS computes the intervention. Your actuators execute it. If your engine has only a shutdown valve, ACSS commands the optimal shutdown sequence at the right moment based on cascade state. ACSS can suppress a cascade in flight only when the engine has the physical control authority to do so — anti-pulse injection, helium counter- pulse, variable-speed turbopump, dynamic throttle, or equivalent.
ACSS does not catch failure modes faster than the speed of chemistry. Detonation initiation and pyrotechnic cascade events propagate below the floor any electronic system can react to. ACSS is architected for the intervenable window — the cascade types where actuators have enough time to matter.

We report which events ACSS would have intervened on in time, which were below the electronic intervention floor, and what the actuator-latency budget looked like for each case.

The pilot bench is the deterministic answer. No marketing claim survives the bench. If the bench shows the substrate's intervention would have arrived inside the window, we move toward Phase 1 integration. If the bench shows the failure was below the intervention floor, we report that honestly and the conversation becomes a different one about prevention or containment.
